About Me

Welcome!

Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, Himachal Pradesh. Thank you for visiting my website. This website aims to give a detailed overview of my experience as a teacher, a researcher, an engineer, and an administrator.

I have graduated with an M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environment Engineering at North Carolina State University with a specialization in Structural Engineering. My research work focussed on studying the effects of High-Frequency Ground Motion on important structures such as Nuclear Power Plants. My Ph.D. dissertation is titled “Factors Affecting the Seismic Response of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment in Nuclear Power Plants Subjected to High-Frequency Ground Motions.” This research has far-reaching applications in addition to safety assessments of non-structural components of Nuclear Power Plants. Some of its applications are:

  • Assessing the safety of hydroelectric dams by studying the effect of high-frequency ground motions and fluid-soil-structure interaction.
  • Assessing the resiliency of electric power grid systems by evaluating the functionality of electrical equipment.

In addition, I have had the privilege to serve as Teaching Assistant in the Civil Engineering department at NCSU. Moreover, I also worked as a Graduate Student Representative with various associations and committees at the university.

Background

I hail from a small town in India named Haldwani in the beautiful state of Uttarakhand. I finished B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology. After graduation, I worked as a Project Engineer/Coordinator at Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd. in Mumbai, India. The state of Uttarakhand is located in an earthquake and flooding-prone area. Hence, throughout my life as a young girl, I have experienced multiple earthquakes, observed landslides, and floods in my home state which influenced my decision of pursuing graduate studies in Structural Engineering and Dynamics.

Photography

In addition to being passionate about Academia and Civil Engineering, I am also an amateur photographer. In my leisure time, I am usually found wandering around the nature, clicking as many pictures as possible. Recently, a photo of mine, titled “Welcome to the Jungle!” was exhibited at the Indian Habitat Center in New Delhi, India. The picture was clicked at the Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand, India. The exhibition, “Our Amazing Planet” was also featured in The New Indian Express newspaper.
